Signage and Pavement Markings Installation

Weather permitting, over the coming weeks contractors will install new signage and add new pavement markings as part of the Broadway at Wallace Street and Simpson Avenue Safety Improvements.

What is happening?

Pavement Marking Updates

  • New pavement markings and flex posts that increase visibility around crosswalks and narrow the street.

Bus Stop consolidation

  • Elimination of a low-utilization bus stop on Broadway at Leonard Street to prevent dangerous vehicle passing through the bus stop.

Flex post installation

  • Street centerline hardening with flex posts to slow turning vehicles at three intersections:
    • Broadway at Simpson Avenue
    • Broadway at Wallace Street and Leonard Street
    • Broadway at Irving Street
  • Protected bike lanes at intersections to create greater separation between people biking and turning vehicles.

Parking reduction

  • As part of the street changes in the final design, a reduction of approximately six (6) on-street parking spaces on Broadway is planned.
  • All of the parking spaces planned to be removed are currently designated as two-hour parking except by permit.

Anticipated Work Schedule (subject to change)

5/19 or Soon After

  • Weather permitting, City contractors will remove the existing pavement markings at the intersections overnight between 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19 and 4 a.m. on Wednesday, May 20.
  • Remaining work including the installation of new pavement markings and flex posts is expected to take place later this spring.

Construction Impacts

  • On-street parking may be restricted during construction (no parking signs will be posted 48 hours in advance).
  • Potential periods of elevated noise levels around work zones during work hours.
  • Access to your driveway may be temporarily restricted during pavement marking, but onsite crews will help you get in and out of your driveway if needed.
  • Trash/recycling pick-ups and deliveries will not be affected
