Community Space Planning
A strong community needs places to gather -- to meet, to play, to learn, to create, to rehearse, and to build.
In 2020, the City worked with a consultant to identify community spaces that currently exist and then determine what additional space may be needed. We looked at spaces that are indoor and managed by nonprofit or government entities. Thank you to the many participants who took our survey or added your ideas to this page! See the final report here.
Ultimately, this research will help the Somerville community make well-informed decisions about how to reuse City-owned property and surface other opportunities to provide the spaces that our residents need.
Existing Community Spaces
Here is a map of the existing community spaces we are aware of. Here, we define community spaces as indoor and run by a nonprofit or government entity. Did we miss a spot? Add it yourself!
