Check out the Community Path Safety Community Engagement Report

From September 8 to October 21, 2025, we worked to engage community members in the Community Path Safety Improvements project. We used this time to learn about community members safety concerns on the Path and gather feedback on proposed design tools.
We launched the project in August 2025. Since then, we engaged with community members in multiple ways including:
Talking to over 90 people at four pop-ups along the Community Path and over 20 people at the Gilman Square Arts and Music Festival and Union Square Farmers Market.
Receiving feedback from 926 participants from our online survey and public input map.
Discussing safety concerns with the Somerville Bicycles Advisory Committee and Pedestrian and Transit Advisory Committee.
We estimate that we connected with over 1,000 people over the 1.5 months of engagement! We’d like to thank community members who participated and shared feedback. Please check out our Community Path Safety Improvements Community Engagement Report which describes all the outreach activities we held and what we heard.
We will use all the comments in the Community Engagement Report to the design strategy for the next phase of this project. We anticipate that this design strategy will be developed and shared in winter/spring 2026. If you have any questions or comments, please email us at transportation@somervillema.gov or call us at 617-666-3311. Subscribe to the Mobility Monthly Newsletter for project updates.
