Learn about a New Project Element for the East Washington Quick Build Safety Improvements Project

We are excited to announce that we have expanded the scope of the project to include constructed floating bus stops at the eastbound and westbound bus stops on Washington Street at Myrtle Street. These additions will help improve transit efficiency on Washington Street and create a safer crossing with fewer conflicts for people walking, rolling, and people biking. This new scope includes:

  • Two floating bus stops
  • New bus shelters and benches at both bus stops
  • Separate and protected bike lanes
  • Approximately four additional parking spaces

We appreciate all the community members who shared their safety concerns about this specific intersection and the need for more amenities at the bus stop. We will share the new design when we publish the concept designs for this project in early 2027. This scope was made possible due to grant funding from the Massachusetts Gaming Commission’s Community Mitigation Fund.
