Check out the Phase 2 Community Engagement Report
From May 7 to July 28, 2026, we worked to engage community members in the concept design phase for the Somerville Avenue Quick-Build Safety Improvements project. During this phase, we publicized the concept design and gathered feedback from community members.
We introduced the concept design at an open house at Conway Park hosted on June 9, 2026, and spent the following months engaging community members through other outreach activities, including:
Hosting three street outreach pop-ups at major intersections in the project area
- Conducting an online feedback survey
- Meeting with businesses one-on-one along the project area
- Attending the Union Square Main Streets Monthly Business Meeting
- Hosting a workshop with the youth at Teen Empowerment
- And meeting with our Pedestrian and Transit Advisory Committee and Somerville Bicycle Advisory Committee
We’d like to thank community members who participated and shared feedback! Please check out our Somerville Avenue Quick-Build Phase 2 Community Engagement Report which describes all the outreach activities we held and what we heard. We estimate that we heard from over 250 people in these efforts.
We will use all the comments in the Community Engagement Report to guide the final design for this project. The project team plans to share final design with the public by the end of 2026 and begin implementation in summer 2027. Please continue to submit comments and concerns by emailing transportaion@somervillema.gov, call us at 617-666-3311 or sign up for the Mobility Monthly Newsletter for project updates.
