Mayor Jake Wilson, Ward 5 Councilor Naima Sait, Ward 3 Councilor Ben Ewen-Campen, Ward 2 Councilor J.T. Scott, and City Staff invite you to an open house to discuss proposed new quick-build designs for Somerville Avenue between Elm Street and Bow Street.

Date & Time: Tuesday, June 9, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.

Location: Conway Park, 550 Somerville Avenue.

Inclement weather date: Wednesday, June 10, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.

If there is inclement weather in the forecast, the City will update the project website approximately 48 hours ahead of time and send an update to project email subscribers and a City Alert to people who live in the project area. If you are not already on the project email subscription list and want to be, please send your request to transportation@somervillema.gov.

In the summer of 2025, we launched this project with the goal of making safety improvements along Somerville Avenue. Community members shared their safety concerns, priorities, and ideas for improvements. We reviewed all the feedback we collected and used it to shape our new conceptual design for these streets. To learn more about what we heard, please check out the Pre-Concept Design Community Engagement Report.

The open house will feature multiple stations where community members can learn about different aspects of the Concept Design and share their feedback and questions with City staff. We will also have pizza and refreshments.

Other ways to learn more and provide feedback on the design: We aim to provide a range of options to learn and engage in this phase of the project.

  • Recorded presentation: Within a week of the open house, we will upload a recorded presentation going through the same materials presented at the open house.
  • Design feedback survey: Community members can share their feedback via our online survey. The survey will be available in English, Spanish, Portuguese, Haitian Creole, Nepali, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese. If you prefer to take this survey via phone, call 311 (617-666-3311) and submit a call back request.
  • Street Outreach Pop-Up: Come talk to us on the street. We are aiming to a pop-up on Tuesday, June 16, 5:00 - 6:00 pm, Friday, June 26, 12:30 - 1:30pm and Tuesday, June 30, 5:00 - 6:00pm. Keep an eye on the website for updates on the location. If inclement weather is forecasted, check the website approximately 48 hours ahead for event updates.
  • Virtual Office Hour: Join City staff on a Zoom webinar anytime on June 18 between 5:30pm and 6:30pm to ask your questions and share your comments directly with staff.
