Northbound Traffic on Cross Street Detoured, Starting Monday, August 3
Weather permitting, this upcoming Monday, August 3 at approximately 7 a.m. City contractors will begin construction of a raised crosswalk across Cross Street at the intersection of Tufts Street.
Cross Street Northbound Detour
- This work will require northbound (toward Broadway) vehicle traffic on Cross Street to be detoured. Vehicles will be directed via McGrath Hwy and then right on Broadway.
- Southbound vehicle traffic will be maintained as usual.
Once in place detours will be in effect 24-hours-a-day. Crews expect to reopen Cross Street to northbound traffic on Wednesday, August 5.
Pedestrian and Transit Impacts
- Sidewalks will remain open and pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.
- MBTA bus routes 80 outbound and route 90 inbound will be detoured while work is underway.

About Raised Crossings/Intersections
Raised crossings are traffic calming tools designed to make our streets safer and more comfortable for everyone. Since they are elevated (roughly to sidewalk height), people driving must slow down as they approach the crossing.
Because they are sidewalk height, they enable people using wheelchairs and other mobility devices to cross more easily.
