Sidewalk Work Now Underway - August '26

As Eversource nears completion of its gas utility project, City contractors MacKay have started rebuilding sidewalks on the south (even-numbered) side of Broadway between Alewife Brook Parkway and Waterhouse Street.

Crews plan to proceed on the south side of the street toward Clarendon Avenue before transitioning to the north (odd-numbered) side of the street.

As work progresses, we will be implementing a new design that will make the street safer and more accessible for everyone. For more information on the new street design see our previous update below.

Construction Impacts

• Work is expected to take place weekdays between approximately 7 a.m. and 4 p.m.
• On-street parking restrictions may be required. Please observe posted signage.
• Temporary lane shifts or detours may be in effect to facilitate work.
• During some phases of work, MBTA bus service may be temporarily modified.
  • Prior to any changes informational signage will be posted at affected stops and at mbta.com/bus.
• Trash/recycling pickups will not be affected.

Additional notification will be provided to community members via flyer prior to sidewalk work taking place in front of their home or business.
