Below surface sewer work beginning in summer 2024

The City performs regular sewer pipeline and manhole rehabilitation each year to ensure that sewer and drainage systems function effectively. Locations are identified based on:

• deficiencies found during annual sewer inspections, and/or
• coordination with other City projects, such as preparations for reconstructions.

This work primarily takes place between mid-June and November. This year, the City is focusing on below surface work in the West Somerville neighborhood, including Broadway. Prioritizing this work in 2024 will help reduce the need for underground maintenance after the West Broadway Reconstruction Project is completed.

This work will not impact the street design process for the West Broadway Reconstruction Project, with final designs expected to be completed in late fall 2024. Full street reconstruction will begin in 2025 or 2026.
