Progress on Sidewalk Reconstruction – October ‘26
Crews have been working since August to rebuild sidewalks on the south (even-numbered) side of Broadway. Work began at Alewife Brook Parkway and has progressed east toward Teele Square, reaching Endicott Avenue.
Crews will continue working east until they reach Teele Square after which point they will switch to the north side of the street and work back west toward Alewife Brook Parkway.
As part of the new street design (see our previous post here for an overview), crews will install a new “floating” bus stop on the corner of Broadway and Weston Avenue.
What is a floating bus stop?
Floating bus stops are sidewalk extensions that provide dedicated waiting space for bus riders. These stops streamline bus service and improve accessibility by enabling the bus to stop in the travel lane rather than pulling over.
Additional notification will be provided to community members via flyer prior to sidewalk work taking place in front of their home or business.
Sidewalk reconstruction will continue through the fall as weather allows. Once colder temperatures prohibit installation of new concrete, crews will break for the winter season and resume work in the spring. Construction of raised crossings and final repaving of the new roadway is currently expected to be completed by summer 2027.
