September 2025 Project Update
Eversource’s work to update gas utilities between Alewife Brook Parkway and Clarendon Avenue continues. Meanwhile, the City's contractor is expected to begin work on accessibility improvements at locations across West Somerville before turning their attention to and beginning work on West Broadway later this fall.

Eversource Gas Main Replacements (Alewife Brook Parkway to Clarendon Avenue)
Eversource Gas contractors have been working since June to update gas utilities along West Broadway. They are currently working between Dickson Street and Watson Street and proceeding east toward Alewife Brook Parkway.
This work is expected to continue through the fall season.
Accessible Curb Ramp Installations
As earlier as later this week (week of 9/15/25), the City’s contractor on the West Broadway project (Mackay Construction) plans to begin work on new accessible curb ramps across west Somerville.
Accessible Curb Ramps make it easier for people with disabilities to move between the sidewalk and roadway crossings.
Improvements are planned for the below locations. Work at each location is expected to take approximately 2-4 working days.
- North Street @ Raymond Avenue
- North Street @ Conwell Avenue
- Electric Avenue @ Westminster Street
- Whitman Street @ Mason Street
- Chandler Street @ William Street
- Hawthorne Street @ West Street
- Lowden Avenue at Broadway
- Adams Street @ Broadway
Anticipated Schedule for West Broadway Reconstruction
Later this fall, we anticipate preliminary work on West Broadway will begin. This initial phase of work is expected to involve installation of new drainage structures to better manage stormwater on the street, particularly related to the upcoming new surface treatments.
