Intersection of Oak St. and Houghton St. Closed to Vehicle Traffic - Mon. 4/28-Tuesday 4/29
Weather permitting, this Monday Apr. 28, beginning at approximately 7 a.m., City contractors will install granite curbing across the new raised intersection at Oak Street and Houghton Street.
Intersection Closed to Traffic - Monday, Apr. 28 to Tuesday, Apr. 29.
This work will require the intersection to be closed to traffic in all four directions for approximately 24 hours. This closure is necessary to allow granite curbing to set properly.
- During this time, Oak Street (Cambridge St. to Prospect St.) and Houghton Street (Springfield St. to Prospect St.) will become temporarily 2-way to facilitate resident access.
- Both sidewalks will remain open during work to allow pedestrian access.
- Access will be retained for emergency vehicles at all times.
Once granite curbing is properly set, crews will reopen the roadway. Temporary asphalt ramps on each approach to the intersection will allow motor vehicle traffic to resume as usual prior to final paving.
Remaining Work - Final Paving and Pavement Marking
Following the installation of granite curbing and temporary asphalt ramps, paving crews will return to add a final, permanent course of asphalt.
Striping and pavement marking will follow this final paving and mark the completion of the reconstruction of this intersection.
