August 2025: Somerville Community Land Trust acquires 14 Sewall Street for affordable homeownership units, using City-secured State grant

The Somerville Community Land Trust (SCLT) has acquired 14 Sewall Street in Winter Hill to develop into 3-5 affordable homeownership units. These units will provide an important path to homeownership in the neighborhood and are located directly adjacent to the larger 299 Broadway mixed-use development. SCLT hosted a celebration in August 2025 to celebrate the acquisition and meet neighbors.

The acquisition was made possible through a $1,000,000 MBTA Communities Catalyst Fund grant received by the City of Somerville from the State’s Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities (HLC). The City was eligible to apply due to compliance with the MBTA Communities Act. Funds from the grant will also be used to support other project costs incurred by SCLT.
