Attend the Broadway Magoun Concept Design Open House, May 6!

Mayor Jake Wilson, Ward 5 Councilor Naima Sait, and City staff invite you to an open house to discuss the proposed concept design options for the Broadway Magoun Reconstruction Project.

Date & Time: Wednesday, May 6 from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.

Location: Arthur D. Healey School, 5 Meacham Street.

About the event: The City of Somerville is planning to reconstruct sidewalks, repave, and redesign Broadway from Winchester Street to Central Street to improve safety, accessibility, comfort and sustainability. In the fall of 2025, we gathered community feedback on transportation safety concerns and priorities for street. Shaped by that input, we’ve developed conceptual design options for the Magoun Intersection and a concept for the full street.

Join us at our upcoming open house to learn more about our proposals and share your feedback with our project team!

The open house will feature multiple stations describing different aspects of the project. Drop-in anytime during the event to review materials and talk with City staff about your feedback and questions. Pizza and refreshments will be provided.

Other ways to learn more and provide feedback on the design options: We aim to provide a range of options to learn and engage in this phase of the project.

  • Recorded presentation: Within a week of the open house, we will upload a recorded presentation going through the same materials presented at the open house.

  • Design feedback survey: From May 6 through June 12, community members can share their feedback via our online survey. The survey will be available in English, Spanish, Portuguese, Haitian Creole, Nepali, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese. If you prefer to take this survey via phone, call 311 (617-666-3311) and submit a call back request.

  • Street Outreach Pop-Up: Come talk to us on the street. We are aiming to a pop-up at the intersection of Broadway and Medford Street on May 27 from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. and at Trum Field (near Broadway) on June 10 from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. If inclement weather is forecasted, check the website approximately 48 hours ahead for event updates.

  • Community group outreach and community events: Between May 6 and June 12, we will also be scheduling meetings with local community groups, visiting nearby small businesses, and tabling at SomerStreets Carnaval.

  • PTAC Community Walk: On May 19 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, the Somerville Pedestrian & Transit Advisory Committee (PTAC) is hosting a community walk on Broadway between Winchester Street and Central Street. The group will meet at Trum Field near the corner of Cedar Street and Franey Road. The goal of the walk is to generate community feedback that will help shape the City's plans. Staff members leading the project from the Mobility Division will be at the walk to receive feedback and answer questions. (Rain date: May 20, 6:00 – 8:00 PM)

Questions: At any time, please feel free to reach out to the Mobility Division with your questions and comments by email at transportation@somervillema.gov or by calling 311 (617-666-3311).
