Upcoming Pavement Markings and Signage Changes on Somerville Avenue, Mossland Street, and Beacon Street
Starting in early October, or soon after, City contractors will begin grinding out old pavement markings and installing new quick-build designs as part of the Elm-Beacon Connector project. At the same time, new parking and traffic signage will go into place to align with the new markings. Crews will begin on Somerville Avenue and then move to Mossland Street followed by Beacon Street.
Schedule of Work (subject to change due to weather or other factors)
- Signage installation is expected to take place between late September and early October
- Work hours are weekdays between 7 a.m. and approximately 3 p.m.
- We anticipate installing new traffic signal equipment across the project area and making changes to signal phasing beginning in late September through to November.
- Removal of old pavement markings and installation of new markings are expected to begin in early October and take a couple of weeks
- Work hours are overnight between the hours of 8 p.m. and 4 a.m.
- Nightwork required for any particular section of roadway within the project area is expected to be limited to approximately 3-4 nights across the duration of the project’s implementation.
Implementation Lookahead
We will also move to close motor vehicle access to Mossland Street from Elm Street to make it a dead-end while creating a new two-way connection for bikes. The new design maintains access for emergency vehicles at both ends of the street. As work progresses, we will continue to post updates to this project webpage.
Construction Impacts
While this work is underway residents should expect,
- Temporary parking restrictions to facilitate pavement markings work
- Permanent parking changes will also be going into effect as new signage is installed
- Some elevated noise levels and lights from construction trucks and equipment
