The City of Somerville is participating in the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center’s On-Street Charging Solutions Program, which is working to identify locations to install new public electric vehicle (EV) chargers along Somerville's streets. Somerville's Climate Forward Plan envisions a City where by 2050, 100% of registered passenger vehicles in Somerville are electric or plug-in hybrid. By installing public-access charging infrastructure in places that are near to local businesses, areas of multi-family housing without easy access to at-home charging, and in districts with Environmental Justice populations, we hope to maximize the benefit and impact of these community amenities.
Informed by the City's work to develop a Siting Strategy for EV Chargers, we are comparing ten sites across the city and will be selecting at least three of them for the installation of new chargers. There is a brief poll below and keep an eye out for Office of Sustainability & Environment Staff at community events over the Summer to provide feedback on site selection.
