Somerville Junction Park
Somerville Junction Park is located on the site of an old passenger train depot that closed in the 1920s. Once a place for travelers to rest while waiting for trains, this site will again be a place to pause along the railroad and an important local transportation corridor. The Community Path offers a safe route for biking, walking, and other forms of active transportation, connecting people directly to Boston, Cambridge, and beyond.
Across from the larger park, there is a platform with seating that looks out over the train tracks, reminding people of Somerville’s history while also serving the needs of the community today.
Somerville Junction was first designated as a public park in 2008. The most recent renovation is expanding the park by transforming a nearby parking lot into a plaza and a lushly planted public space. The updated park features a lawn, native plants that attract pollinators, shady trees, a hammock grove, seating areas, and walking paths.
We look forward to announcing the park opening date in the coming months.
