Somerville Junction
Following the completion of the Green Line and Community Path extension, the City of Somerville is planning to expand and improve Somerville Junction Park. In addition to being an important neighborhood passive park, Junction Park will become an important node and resting place along the Community Path. The City has hired a design consultant to lead the design and community process in Spring 2022. Potential new amenities at an expanded Junction Park may include community gardens, water play, and adult fitness equipment.

almost 2 years agoRose291over 1 year agoFully enclosed off-leash dog park
Somerville is one of the densest cities in the country, and that includes dogs. Well-exercised and socialized dogs are well-behaved dogs - having an enclosed space for pups to play and relieve themselves is absolutely critical to keeping everyone safe. Plus, there will be even more train noise with the GLX, which might make the park less desirable for humans (but just as desirable for dogs).

To facilitate pedestrians, please be sure to include benches in the plan. Next to the dog park would be excellent!

The previous water fountain was a great place to get water during long runs on hot days. It was also great that it had a lower bowl for dogs.

This has been a great kite flying park for the last 10 years that I’ve lived nearby. Let’s keep the green space open! A safe, open paved space for teaching kids to ride bikes or scooters with a loop around the green park would be just perfect. Another splash pad would be an excellent addition too!

It would be cool to have an area raised as a small stage so we could have outdoor theater in the park. The quiet secluded park would be perfect for some summer Shakespeare.
