Sidewalk Reconstruction Begins - Week of 8/31

Weather permitting, crews plan to start rebuilding sidewalks sometime during the week of August 31. Crews will begin digging up existing sidewalks prior to installing new concrete sidewalks.

Work is expected to begin on the north (odd-numbered) side of the street at Dana Street/McGrath Hwy and proceed west toward Medford Street.

What to Expect

  • Following excavation (digging up) of the old sidewalks, there will be a period of approximately 1-2 weeks where temporary sidewalks made up of packed dirt of gravel are in place.
  • Additional notice will be provided directly to residents via flyer prior to new concrete being poured in front of driveways along the street.
    • Access to your driveway may be temporarily restricted for approximately 48 hours or until new concrete is sufficiently cured (hardened).
  • Trash/recycling pick-ups and deliveries will not be affected.

If you have questions, please email construction@somervillema.gov or call the Engineering Division at (617) 625-6600 ext. 5400.
